I feel as proud as proud can be
With joy I'm like to chok'!
I've got the nicest lass that ever
Buttoned on a frock.
It was by luck I met her
Allow me to explain'
I was going to Inverary at
The Fair-time in the train.

Spoken;
You see, it was like this; I was standin' at the station waitin' on the train comin' in; and
when the train rushed into the station, everybody rushed to get into the train; and who should
try to get into the same compartment as me but this girl I'm telling you about. Well, in the
rush of the crush, her and Igot squeezed in the door, and and she yelled out,  "Oh!  you're
jammin' me into jelly!"  Said I,  "If you object to get squeezed, you don't belong to Glasgow!"

Chorus
I got spooney on Mary,
Mary got spooney on me.
Oh! what a day- wasn't it gay!
I was as happy as happy I could be.
I told her she was a dove.
Told her she was a fairy.
Oh! what a jollification we had
On the road to Inverary.

When she cried out, "Let go my hands,
I want to wipe my nose!"

Spoken:
Said I, "Here's a hanky, my lassie." Said she, "I've a hanky of my own." Said I,  How
would ye like a husband of your own!" She said, "Do you want to tak' a lend of me?" I said,
"No, I want ye  altogether."  "Well," she said, "away and ask my mither."  Said I, "It's not
your mither I want, it's you."  I got so infatuated, said I,  "Say the word and we'll get spliced
the morn." Said I, "Come close beside me."  Said she, "I'll do nothing of the kind." and just with
that I threw my arms around her neck, and...
